Shipping & Pickup

Do you charge for shipping?

Inbound shipping is free from anywhere in the United States. Use our shipping label generator and we email you a prepaid label for UPS, FedEx, or USPS Priority Mail (your choice), or use USPS business reply mail either by downloading the label and order form from our website or by using a pre-addressed envelope we have given you. Return shipping is billed on your invoice. If your office is inside our Indianapolis Northside pickup area, pickup and drop-off are both free.

How do I send my handpiece in for repair?

If you are local to the northern Indianapolis area, local pickup and delivery is your most convenient option. If you are outside of the local pickup and delivery area, please utilize our shipping label generator as it will be the fastest and most traceable method to send us your handpieces. Alternatively, we still accept business reply mail. Please see this page for more details.

Do you offer local pickup and drop-off?

Yes. Pickup and drop-off are free for practices inside our Indianapolis Northside service area. Book a pickup, leave the handpieces at your front desk on the scheduled day, and we return them to you when the repair is complete. See our shipping and local pickup page for full details.

Do you work with practices outside Indiana?

Yes. We serve dental practices and multi-location groups nationwide by mail, with free inbound shipping from anywhere in the United States.

Estimates & Pricing

Do you charge for an estimate?

No. Estimates are free and inbound shipping is free — it costs nothing to find out what a repair would cost.

How much does it cost to repair a dental handpiece?

We post prices for nearly all services you might need. We occasionally send custom quotes for specialized repairs. A high-speed pneumatic overhaul is $229 with a 6-month warranty, or $299 with a 12-month warranty. A low-speed nosecone overhaul is $119, and a low-speed contra angle overhaul is $149, both with 6-month warranties. A low-speed motor overhaul is $249, again with a 6-month warranty. An electric handpiece overhaul starts at $249 with a 3-month warranty and can reach $522 for a complete overhaul with a 6-month warranty. A TLC — disassemble, test, lubricate, and clean — starts at $59 and varies in price based on the complexity of the handpiece. See our full services and pricing list.

What is the difference between a TLC and an overhaul?

A TLC is a disassemble, test, lubricate, and clean service. No parts are replaced, so it carries no warranty. An overhaul includes the TLC and replaces the wear components — bearings, spindles, impellers, o-rings, and washers on pneumatics; bearings and gears on electrics — and carries a warranty period.

Can the price change after you inspect my handpiece?

An estimate is a good-faith approximation of the cost to complete the requested service. Approving an estimate allows an upward adjustment of up to 10% of the original estimate per line item for additional necessary repairs. Anything beyond that requires a revised estimate for your approval before we proceed.

What if I don’t approve the estimate?

Nothing happens until you approve. If we receive no response to an estimate within 90 days, the handpiece is considered abandoned and may be disposed of or returned at your expense.

Payment & Billing

What payment methods do you accept?

Credit card and ACH. Checks are accepted only for existing customers with services completed prior to March 16, 2026.

Do you charge transaction or processing fees?

No. There are no transaction, processing, or account fees. Your invoice is the repair price, applicable state and local sales tax, and return shipping — nothing else.

When is payment due?

Full payment is required prior to shipment or delivery of repaired equipment. If you’re a new customer, we’ll ask you to put payment information on file when the work is completed.

What happens if an invoice goes unpaid?

Invoices unpaid after 30 days are subject to a late fee of 2% per month on the outstanding balance. Accounts unpaid after 90 days are referred to a collections agency, and any handpiece associated with an unpaid invoice after 90 days is considered abandoned. Full details are in our Terms & Conditions.

Turnaround Time

How long will my repair take?

Our average turnaround is 1.48 days. Standard overhauls and TLC services are backed by our 5-Day Guarantee: your handpiece is repaired and back at your office within 5 business days, or you get a 10% credit.

What is the 5-Day Guarantee?

If we don’t get your repaired handpiece back to your office within 5 business days of mailing it, you receive a credit worth 10% of any late line items’ repair costs. The credit will be applied automatically to your account — no claim forms, no phone calls. It applies to standard overhauls and TLC services shipped on a Northshore-generated label.

Credits apply to the repair subtotal of the late items, excluding shipping and taxes, and post to your account toward future invoices. See the full 5-Day Guarantee terms for complete details.

What can pause the 5-day clock?

The clock pauses while we wait on your approval of an estimate, while a required part is on manufacturer backorder, and for carrier delays where the estimated delivery date is pushed back after the first scan. Water line and fiber optic repairs aren’t covered by the guarantee, because those parts can be harder to source — they’re still repaired as usual, just without the 5-day clock.

How will I know when my repair is done?

Your invoice lists the tracking number for the return shipment, so you can follow your handpiece back to your office.

Warranty

How long is the warranty on a handpiece repair?

The warranty period is listed next to each service on our pricing page and is restated on your invoice. High-speed pneumatic overhauls are 6 or 12 months. Low-speed overhauls are 6 months. Electric overhauls are 3 months, extended to 6 months when the gear set is replaced. TLC services carry no warranty, because no parts are replaced.

What does the warranty cover?

Our Limited Warranty covers the specific parts we installed during your repair, and the labor and workmanship involved in installing them. If a warranty claim is approved after inspection, we cover standard shipping both ways. Please see our website’s legal page for full terms.

What voids the warranty?

The warranty is void if the handpiece has been misused, dropped, operated outside manufacturer specifications, or serviced by anyone other than Northshore during the warranty period — including any attempt to open or disassemble it. It is also void if the handpiece shows impact damage, if burs are used with the bur extended rather than fully seated in the spindle, or if manufacturer lubrication and maintenance instructions aren’t followed. Please see our website’s legal page for full terms.

How do I submit a warranty claim?

Complete an order form and indicate warranty service on it. The handpiece must be postmarked within the warranty period. If the claim is approved after inspection, we cover standard shipping both ways. If inspection shows the failure isn’t covered, you’re responsible for the repair charges and return shipping. Please see our website’s legal page for full terms.

Do you need the serial number?

Yes. Our Limited Warranty applies only to the exact handpiece we repaired, identified by serial number. If the serial number is missing or unreadable when a claim is made, the handpiece isn’t eligible for warranty coverage — unless our internal service records clearly establish that it’s the one we repaired. Please see our website’s legal page for full terms.
